SPECIALIZED SERVICESSupport Groups
Healing is more powerful when you do not have to do it alone.
There is something profound that happens when you sit in a room — or a virtual space — with people who truly understand what you are carrying. At Awaken Wellness, our support groups offer a safe, affirming, and clinically guided space to be witnessed, heard, and supported on your healing journey.
Group work offers something individual therapy cannot
-
The experience of being seen by more than one person.
For people who grew up unseen, dismissed, or overlooked, this alone can be transformative.
-
The realization that you are not alone in what you carry.
Hearing someone else name the exact thing you have only ever felt privately — and watching them be met with care — changes something deep.
-
A real-time space to practice new patterns.
Speaking up. Setting a limit. Receiving care without deflecting it. Being honest. The group becomes a practice ground for the relationships waiting outside it.
-
Witness as part of the healing.
Telling your story to one person heals one way. Telling it in a held space, surrounded by others who also choose presence over judgment, heals another way entirely.
-
Accelerated growth through shared work.
Many people describe one session of group as doing what several individual sessions could not.
Group therapy is not a replacement for individual therapy — and for some people, the two work powerfully together. What it is, is a different kind of medicine. The kind that reminds you, often in a very embodied way, that you were never meant to do any of this alone.
Our support groups
Group therapy is a form of therapy where a small number of people meet regularly with one or two trained clinicians to work on shared experiences — together. It is not a class. It is not a support group in the casual sense. It is real therapeutic work, with the same depth and care as individual therapy, held in the unique container that only a group can offer.
Some groups focus on a specific theme — anxiety, grief, trauma recovery, parenting, relationships, identity. Others are open-ended and explore whatever members bring to the room each week. What every group at Awaken Wellness shares is a clinically held space where people can be honest, witnessed, and supported as they do the work.
The Weight We Carry
A weekly clinician-held group for adults moving through everyday stress, transition, and the quiet load of holding it all together. Whether you're navigating change, caring for others, or simply tired of doing this on your own, the group offers a steady space to slow down, be witnessed, and remember you don't have to carry everything alone.
In Relation
A weekly clinician-held therapy group for adults working through the quiet patterns that shape our relationships — the ways we reach for connection, the ways we pull away, and the wounds we bring into the space between us. Whether you're navigating a specific relational difficulty or simply ready to understand yourself in connection more deeply, the group offers a steady space to be witnessed, to practice, and to grow.
Why group?
Sometimes the most healing thing is not one more individual session, it is being in a room where someone looks at you and says “me too.”
You are not alone
Groups remind us that our struggles are human. Shared experience reduces shame, isolation, and the exhausting belief that something is uniquely wrong with us.
Multiple perspectives
Hearing how others navigate similar challenges opens doors we did not know existed. Group members often offer insights and reflections that shift everything.
Relational healing happens in relationship
Many of our deepest wounds happened in relationship — with family, partners, communities. Group therapy provides a safe relational space to practice new ways of connecting and being seen.
Accountability and consistency
Showing up weekly for yourself and for others builds momentum. The group becomes a container that holds your growth between individual sessions.
Affordable and accessible
Group sessions are offered at a lower cost than individual therapy, making consistent support more accessible to more people.
What to expect
Before you join
All prospective group members complete a brief phone or in-person screening to ensure the group is the right fit for where you are in your journey. This is not a barrier — it is how we protect the safety and cohesion of the group for everyone.
Group Structure
Most groups meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes. Groups may be open — meaning new members can join on a rolling basis — or closed, meaning enrollment is fixed for a set number of sessions. Each group listing will specify its format.
Confidentiality
What is shared in the group stays in the group. All members agree to a group confidentiality agreement at the start. Our facilitators are bound by the same professional ethical standards as in individual therapy.
Virtual & In-Person Options
Most groups are offered both virtually via secure telehealth and in person at our Queens Village locations. Group listings will specify available formats.
