Our Services

  • We take a holistic approach to therapy, which means we look at the whole person, not just the concern that brings you in. Your therapist will work with you collaboratively to understand your goals, explore the patterns you'd like to change, and build strategies that support real, lasting growth.

It can feel difficult at first, and progress takes time. Sessions are a space to practice and build skills, but much of the meaningful work happens when you apply those skills in your everyday life. The more you put in, the more you get out.

  • We currently offer individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as group therapy, workshops, and retreats. We're always growing, stay tuned for new offerings.

  • Our clinicians take an integrative approach, drawing from multiple evidence-based modalities to best fit each client's unique needs. Commonly used approaches include:

    •       Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

    •       Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

    •       Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

    •       Internal Family Systems (IFS)

    •       Psychodynamic Therapy

    •       Narrative Therapy

    •       Art Therapy

    •       Play Therapy

Every clinician brings their own training and style, so we encourage you to explore our clinician profiles on the website to find someone who feels like a good fit.

  • Yes. Group offerings vary based on interest and availability. Visit our website for information on current groups and upcoming programs.

  • No, our therapists are not able to prescribe medication. If medication could be a helpful part of your care, your therapist can provide a referral to a psychiatrist or medical provider for evaluation.

  • We support clients across a wide range of concerns, but we don't specialize in treating eating disorders, substance addictions, psychotic disorders, or conditions that require intensive medical oversight. If your needs fall outside our scope, we'll connect you with a provider or program that is better equipped to support you.

  • Yes, absolutely. Awaken Wellness is an affirming, inclusive practice and we welcome clients at every stage of gender exploration and transition — whether you're just beginning to explore your identity, are actively transitioning, or are somewhere in between.

    Our therapists can provide:

    • Emotional support and processing — navigating identity, family dynamics, relationships, and the mental and emotional weight that can come with transition

    • Letters of support for gender-affirming care — including letters for hormone therapy (HRT) and gender-affirming surgeries, written in alignment with WPATH standards

    • Referrals to affirming providers — including endocrinologists, physicians, and surgeons who specialize in gender-affirming care

    • Support for families and loved ones — helping those close to you understand and show up for you through this process

We understand that finding care that truly sees and affirms you can be its own challenge. At Awaken Wellness, you don't have to explain or justify yourself — you can simply focus on your wellbeing.

Scheduling & Appointments

  • You can request your first appointment by completing our intake form on our website, or by reaching out directly at clientnavigator@awakenwellness.info. We typically respond within 1–2 business days.

When filling out the form, please share as much detail as you're comfortable with — it helps us match you with the therapist who's the best fit for your needs.

  • We encourage you to browse our clinician profiles on the website to learn about each therapist's background and focus areas. If someone feels like a good fit, you're welcome to request them on your intake form. If they're unavailable, we'll match you with another clinician whose approach aligns with what you're looking for.

  • Our practice includes clinicians at different levels of training and licensure:

    •       Licensed Therapists (LMHC, LMSW) — Fully licensed with the highest level of independent practice experience.

    •       Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT/MFT) — Specialized training in relationship, couples, and family therapy.

    •       Limited Permit Clinicians (MHC-LP) — Graduate-trained and working toward full licensure under clinical supervision.

    •       Student Interns — Graduate students completing supervised clinical training, supported by licensed therapists and their academic programs.

All of our clinicians are committed to providing quality, compassionate care. Self-pay rates may vary based on experience level.

  • Yes, both options are available. Some clinicians work fully remotely; others offer a hybrid of in-person and virtual. For children, we often recommend in-person when possible, as it supports stronger engagement — though virtual is always an option.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which allows for consistency and meaningful momentum. In some situations, twice-weekly sessions may be recommended. Frequency is always discussed with your therapist and may shift to biweekly as you make progress toward your goals.

  • Session length varies by type:

    •       Consultation: 15 minutes (free)

    •       Intake session (first appointment): 60 minutes

    •       Individual therapy (adults): 50 minutes

    •       Couples, family, children's, and group therapy: 60 minutes

    •       Crisis sessions: 30 minutes

In some cases, sessions of approximately 75 minutes may be recommended for clients in crisis or working through more complex concerns.

  • Our therapists currently provide services in English and Spanish. If you need a bilingual therapist, please note that in your intake form.

Your Experience in Therapy

  • Therapy isn't only for moments of crisis, it can be helpful at any point in life and often works best when you start before things feel overwhelming. Think of it like preventive care: just as you'd see a doctor for a routine check-up, therapy helps you tend to your mental and emotional health before things reach a breaking point.

It can help you in navigating challenges, improving relationships, managing stress, processing difficult experiences and life transitions, or gaining a deeper understanding of yourself. If you've been wondering whether it might help, that curiosity alone is often a good place to start.

  • Your first session, called an intake, is an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you and understand what's bringing you in. You might talk about your current concerns, some personal history and background, your goals for therapy, and any questions you have about the process.

There's nothing specific you need to prepare, though you're welcome to jot down a few thoughts beforehand. You're always in control of what you share and how much.

  • Finding the right fit takes time, and that's completely normal. We generally encourage clients to attend 3–5 sessions before deciding whether the connection feels right. If it still doesn't feel like a match, reach out to us at clientnavigator@awakenwellness.info and we'll help connect you with someone who might be a better fit.

  • Most therapists stay in touch via email or text for scheduling and brief logistical questions. Your therapist will talk through preferred communication methods with you early on, so expectations are clear.

  • Availability outside of sessions varies by clinician. Some therapists may be able to respond to brief questions or support urgent situations, but this should be discussed directly with your therapist. We ask that clients be mindful of clinicians' time outside of scheduled appointments.

  • If you're experiencing a mental health crisis and need immediate support, please reach out to one of the following:

    •       988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — Call or text 988

    •       Crisis Text Line — Text HOME or HOLA to 741741

    •       NYC Mobile Crisis Team — 888-692-9355

    •       SAMHSA National Helpline — 800-662-4357

    •       Teen Line (youth support) - 800-852-8336

If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also notify your therapist, but keep in mind they may not always be immediately available — crisis lines and emergency services are the most reliable resources in urgent situations.

  • It varies for each person. Some clients come for a focused period to work through a specific challenge; others stay longer to support ongoing growth, self-reflection, and life transitions. Your therapist will regularly check in with you about your goals and progress so you can decide together what feels right.

For Parents & Families

  • For children and adolescents, the first session typically includes both the parent(s) and child. This helps the therapist understand what's bringing your family in and gives your child a chance to begin getting comfortable with the space. After the intake, your therapist will discuss what future sessions will look like.

  • Simple, reassuring language goes a long way. You might explain that therapy is a place where they can talk about their feelings, ask questions, and learn how to handle hard things, and that the therapist is there to support them. There's no need to make it feel like something is "wrong."

  • It depends on your child's age and needs. In many cases, therapists check in with parents periodically to share progress, discuss strategies, and answer questions — while still giving the child their own space in sessions

  • Your child's therapist will balance your need for updates with your child's need for privacy. You'll receive general information about themes, progress, and recommendations, but specific details your child shares in session will remain confidential unless there's a safety concern.

  • Your therapist will schedule periodic parent check-ins throughout treatment. You're also always welcome to reach out if questions or concerns come up between updates.

  • We recommend giving it 3–5 sessions before making that call. If it still doesn't feel right, contact us at clientnavigator@awakenwellness.info and we'll help find a better match.

Couples Therapy

  • Couples therapy at Awaken Wellness is a collaborative space where both partners are heard, respected, and supported — not a place where anyone is blamed or put on the defensive. Our therapists work to understand each person's perspective and help you both move toward a relationship that feels more connected, honest, and fulfilling.

    What you'll work on together

Every couple comes in with their own story, but common areas of focus include:

    ·   Communication patterns — learning how to express needs, frustrations, and feelings without things escalating or shutting down

    ·   Rebuilding trust after betrayal, dishonesty, or emotional distance

    ·   Navigating major life transitions — new parenthood, job changes, loss, illness, or relocation

    ·   Intimacy and connection — emotional, physical, or both

    ·   Recurring conflict that feels stuck or circular

    ·   Deciding whether to stay together or separate — and how to do either with clarity and respect

    ·   Supporting one another through individual challenges, like grief, mental health, or identity shifts

  • The first session is an intake where your therapist gets to know you both — your history as a couple, what's bringing you in, and what you're hoping for. Many therapists will also schedule brief individual sessions with each partner early on to understand each person's experience privately. After that, sessions typically involve both partners together.

Couples therapy sessions are 60 minutes. Most couples begin with weekly sessions and adjust frequency over time based on progress and goals.

A few things worth knowing going in:

Couples therapy works best when both people are willing to be honest, including about their own role in the dynamic, not just their partner's. It's not always comfortable, and there may be sessions that feel harder than others. That's normal and often where the most important work happens.

A therapist's role is not to take sides or tell you what to do, it's to help you both see more clearly, communicate more effectively, and make decisions that are right for your relationship.

Therapy can't save a relationship on its own, but it can give you both the tools, the language, and the space to do that work yourselves.

Policies & Privacy

  • We require at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be subject to a $50 fee.

If you're unable to reach your therapist directly, please contact our main office at (347) 797-5261.

  • Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers are required to share an estimated cost of services with clients who are self-paying. This is called Good Faith Estimate, and it's designed to help you make informed decisions about your care without unexpected costs.

  • Yes. Everything shared in your sessions is confidential and will not be disclosed without your written consent. There are a few legal exceptions, including:

    •       If there is a risk of harm to yourself or others

Your therapist will walk through these limits with you during your first session so you know exactly what to expect.
