Our story

Awaken Wellness was not built from a business plan. It was built from a calling.

Founded in 2013 by Chanel Tazza, LMHC, CASAC, CEAP, Awaken Wellness began as a solo practice rooted in a simple but radical conviction — that quality mental health care should be accessible to everyone, not just those with the means or the privilege to seek it out. What started as one clinician, one office, and an unwavering commitment to her community has grown into a thriving group practice serving a diverse and expansive client base in the heart of Queens, New York.

Over the years, Awaken Wellness has evolved in scope, team, and services — but never in spirit. The same values that shaped the practice in its earliest days continue to define everything we do: trauma-informed care, cultural responsiveness, clinical integrity, and a deep respect for the humanity of every person who walks through our doors.

We have sat with individuals carrying wounds they had never named. We have worked with families navigating cycles that span generations. We have supported people through addiction, grief, divorce, identity, and the quiet suffering that does not always have a clear label. And in every room, with every client, the commitment has been the same — to show up fully, to hold space honestly, and to believe in healing even when the client cannot yet believe in it for themselves.

That is who we are. That is who we have always been.

Our team

The clinicians of Awaken Wellness are more than colleagues — they are a community of practitioners who share a commitment to doing this work with integrity, compassion, and clinical excellence. Our team includes fully licensed mental health counselors, limited permit clinicians building toward licensure, and graduate interns completing their clinical training under close supervision.

Every member of our team is carefully selected, thoroughly supervised, and aligned with the values that define this practice. When you work with anyone at Awaken Wellness, you are working with someone who is supported, accountable, and genuinely invested in your wellbeing.

Our community

Awaken Wellness is rooted in the heart of Queens, New York — one of the most culturally rich and beautifully diverse communities in the country. We are proud to serve clients from across the borough and beyond, including individuals and families who have historically faced barriers to mental health care.

In 2025, we expanded our presence with the opening of our Queens Village location — a space intentionally designed to meet the growing needs of our community and to bring our vision of whole-person care to life in a new way. Our Queens Village location features a dedicated yoga and movement space for somatic and body-based healing work, as well as a warm and welcoming space for in-person support groups, workshops, and community gatherings. This expansion reflects our commitment to making Awaken Wellness not just a place to receive therapy, but a true wellness home — where healing happens in multiple dimensions and community is part of the medicine.

Our philosophy

We recognize that healing looks different for everyone — including for professionals and executives who bring a unique set of needs to the therapeutic space. For working professionals, entrepreneurs, and high-achieving individuals who value privacy, flexibility, and a premium standard of care, Awaken Wellness offers boutique clinical services tailored to that experience. This includes priority scheduling, extended session options, concierge-level client navigation, and a private, discreet environment for those for whom confidentiality is not just a preference — it is a necessity. Our boutique offering is self-pay and reflects the full value of specialized, senior-level clinical care without the constraints of insurance-based treatment.

Whether you are navigating the emotional weight of a high-pressure career, relationship strain beneath the surface of a successful life, or the particular loneliness that can come with achievement — we see you, and we have built something for you too.

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, a broad range of commercial insurance plans, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), self-pay, and boutique private-pay arrangements. Our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible between the people who need care and the care that can change their lives — and to ensure that care is available at every point on that spectrum.

Because we believe that healing should never be a privilege. And for those who have earned the means to invest in it fully — we believe it should be exceptional.

A note from our founder

When I founded Awaken Wellness, I was not just building a practice. I was building the space I had once needed and could not find — a place where the door was wide open, where your story was welcome, and where healing was not conditional on having the right insurance card or the right zip code.

What we have built here is something I am deeply proud of — not because of its size or its scope, but because of what happens inside of it every single day. People doing the hard, courageous work of becoming more fully themselves. Clinicians showing up with skill and heart. A team that genuinely believes in this mission.

We are not a perfect practice. We are a committed one. And that commitment to our clients, to our community, to the work s something I renew every single day.

With gratitude,

Chanel Tazza
