MHC Intern
Vanessa Reyes (she/they) is a Mental Health Counseling Intern (MHC) at Awaken Wellness, currently pursuing her Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Queens College. She is part of a multicultural community, is passionate about political issues, human rights, and social justice, and hopes to create an inclusive space where clients feel welcome and supported.
Vanessa aims to explore a multitude of modalities, including person-centered, psychodynamic, DBT, and CBT. As a new counselor, Vanessa hopes to utilize these different modalities with her clients and collaborate on what works to cater to her clients’ needs. She is open to working with diverse clients of all ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds, with a focus on struggles with anxiety, difficult transitions, and adjustment issues.
Outside of the therapeutic space, Vanessa is passionate about feminist issues and writes personal essays about the experience of womanhood. She also enjoys crocheting, painting, and using her sewing machine to alter thrifted clothes. Vanessa hopes to earn her PhD and focus on research related to feminist literature and the sociology of heteronormativity and patriarchal standards.
