Breanna Andrus

(she/her)

MHC Intern

Breanna is a student intern therapist with five years of experience working with children, youth, and families. She primarily works with LGBTQ+ clients, couples, and families, approaching concerns from a systemic perspective. Breanna is a lesbian woman of color who is passionate about supporting individuals navigating the world with marginalized identities.

Breanna draws from Bowen family systems theory, narrative therapy, and Imago relationship therapy to help clients identify relational patterns and narratives contributing to present distress. She also incorporates elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to support clients in mindfully managing distressing thought patterns. Her therapeutic style is warm, encouraging, and collaborative. She allows clients to move at their own pace and understands that meaningful change happens in small steps.

What Breanna enjoys most about therapy is witnessing when clients begin to recognize how far they have come. Clients describe her as someone who helps them view their situations from new and empowering perspectives.

Outside of Awaken Wellness, Breanna works with individuals and families impacted by incarceration. She currently provides trauma-informed care to individuals incarcerated on Rikers Island who are preparing for release. In her free time, she enjoys cozy gaming, reading, going to the gym, and watching Netflix.
