Therapy

  • Individual counseling is a form of treatment in which the client is treated on a one-on-one basis with a therapist. It may encompass many different treatment styles including psychoanalysis and cognitive behavior therapy. We can work on ways to explore and clarify your feelings, in addition to how you communicate, understand others, and explore options to make changes in your life.

  • Couples can often find themselves in conflict, and dedicating time in therapy to one another to resolve differences that commonly exist in relationships can be beneficial. Together we explore values, gender roles, cultural issues, and differences and establish ways of communicating and fighting fairly to find a compromise that can strengthen the couple to move forward.

  • Family therapy is based on the belief that the family is a unique system with its own structure, values, and patterns of communication. We explore your family norms and focus on improving communication, self-expression, and understanding in order to overcome the many stressors a family can face

  • With children, we primarily engage in play therapy, allowing a relationship to build and allowing the child to express themselves in a manner that is non-intrusive and supportive. Adolescents are often difficult to approach. However, we create a safe and supportive environment for them to express themselves freely to explore behavioral, academic, and social concerns. We address changes to the family system, grief and loss, behavioral difficulties, and academic concerns.

  • We explore how substances affect your personal life and those around you. We establish behavioral changes and develop strategies to overcome dependency. SMART Recovery and the 12 steps concept and resources can also be incorporated into the treatment.

  • For the months of May through September and weather permitting, we offer sessions outdoors while walking. This will help aid in both mental and physical wellness. We offer this near Cunningham Park, Alley Pond Park, Forest Part, and the College Point area. Your clinician may be able to accommodate a different location.

  • Counseling sessions are available in the comfort of the surroundings of your choice. It can occur over a video or telephone format.
